3rd March, 2017: the wines of the Rías Baixas appellation continue their unstoppable advance as a quality brand in export markets, as indicated by the 2016 figures for export sales.
The total value of Rías Baixas wines exported saw an 11.79% increase in 2016 compared with 2015, with sales reaching a figure of over 33 million euros. These improved export figures for this appellation enhance Galicia’s image on the international stage as a producer of quality wines.
The encouraging results achieved in 2016 is a just reward for the consistently hard work carried out by the whole of the Rías Baixas appellation. Of the 183 wineries registered, 103 are working on the development of their export markets. In addition to the efforts and investment that each and every one of them has made at an individual level, promotional campaigns have also been developed by the Rías Baixas Regulating Council. The appellation’s commitment to furthering the knowledge and prestige of the wines of Rías Baixas has led to the setting up of significant promotional events in its main export markets, such as the USA, the UK, Germany, Mexico, Ireland, the Benelux countries and Japan, as well carrying out specific actions in emerging wine markets.
As a result of all of these actions, exports now represent 28% of total sales of wine from the Rías Baixas appellation, which amounts to a volume of 22,965,703 litres of wine. These results are underpinned by the high quality of its wines and demonstrate the commitment of the sector, its growers and its wineries, and their continued pursuit of the highest levels of excellence.
